The HearSkins story:
HearSkins was created by an audiologist on a mission to destigmatize the use of hearing devices. Vinyl Sticker Factory is proud to have supported this effort, which resulted in bringing HearSkins to life!

A Silent Problem
It is estimated that between 30 and 45 million Americans suffer from a degree of hearing loss. That's about 1 in 8 of us... Hearing aids are a viable solution to mitigate the impacts of hearing loss. Unfortunately, there is a stigma associated with hearing aids.
As a result, only about 14% of people who could benefit from hearing aids actually wear them.

As a practicing audiologist, Jen Aslin, Au.D., project partner and HearSkins founder, was initially encouraged to fit hearing aids that were so tiny that no one knew her patients were wearing them. This approach was paramount to attempting to hide a disability.
The approach did not sit well with Jen. The idea of purposefully covering or obscuring hearing aids grew increasingly bothersome to her.
Jen does not see hearing loss as a disability - the way it is often labeled. Rather, she saw it as a unique facet of human diversity, worthy of celebration and empowerment.
Through conversations with patients and people across the globe, a different approach emerged. Why keep trying to "hide" hearing aids, and a wearers' identity... What if we did the exact opposite?
Jen does not see hearing loss as a disability - the way it is often labeled. Rather, she saw it as a unique facet of human diversity, worthy of celebration and empowerment.
Through conversations with patients and people across the globe, a different approach emerged. Why keep trying to "hide" hearing aids, and a wearers' identity... What if we did the exact opposite?
Why not individualize them and turn them into a canvas for expression - building confidence and pride - versus trying to cover them up? What if a hearing aid was more than just a medical device - but rather an accessory that amplifies a wearer's identity and character? With that idea in mind, HearSkins was born!
HearSkins stickers are applied directly to hearing aids - and fit most devices.
Better yet, our stickers are easily removed when it's time for a new design. This allows users to customize their devices based on outfit, season, event, and more!
Users can apply the smaller stickers to their device as well - and even trim the larger ones to fit. We use high-quality vinyl to create our stickers, for a clean, matte finish that looks and feels great. Plus, they're easy to clean! (Note that generally, our "skins" won't touch a wearers' ear).
Have leftover stickers? Share them with friends who also wear hearing devices. Our mission is all about building a community and identity - and sharing style is a great way to do that!

As HearSkins took shape, we gravitated toward the slogan "Amplify Your Identity." We love this slogan, as it so perfectly captures what we want our products to do.
Our goal is to revolutionize the way the world sees hearing aids.
The HearSkins mission is about breaking down stereotypes. Its about empowerment. Its about encouraging people to embrace identity - and share it with the world.
It's the opposite of hiding a hearing aid - and someone's unique character and experience. Instead, it's about amplifying it.
After all, Hearing Aids don't have to look like the plain, mundane medical devices we're used to seeing:

Inspired by feedback, and confident in our approach, we set out to build the basic business infrastructure for HearSkins.
The design process began in a videoconference call between our team - as so many of us have grown accustomed to. Our initial product specs were sketched out on napkins, - then ruled tablets.
And like many projects and ideas, this one began to take life on a laptop, in row 16, seat D, on a six hour cross-country flight. Our collection of final designs grew - and soon we were ready to proceed!
We quickly generated over 100 great designs for our initial HearSkins bundles. We conducted market research, collected feedback, and selected our 24 favorite designs for our initial debut.
Great products have a logo, and build brand recognition. HearSkins needed to do the same - so we set out to develop initial branding:

As most entrepreneurs do, we hit roadblocks associated with suppliers - and transitioned to a new printer. Of course they didn't have the same materials that we had planned for, but we adapted, and ultimately ended up with a better final prototype design.
Initial responses have been extremely positive. Hearing aid wearers loved the idea. Design enthusiasts complimented us on our approach. We even have preliminary interest from companies who heard about our approach and mission.
